Municipal elections 2026: At a cross road or in a cul-de-sac ? : A sneak preview
Werner Zybrands
The media, saturated with a constant stream of bone-dry factual information, irksome messages and propaganda from hundreds of political parties and tall stories from local “ wanna be leaders” is raising the stress levels and compounding the confusion of voters who have to mark their ballot papers on 4 November 2026.
In his presentation, Werner Zybrands, a former Municipal Manager of Overstrand will give a broad outline of the legislation that governs municipal elections. Thereafter he will paint a picture of the state of local government (mostly drab in various shades of grey) and then conjure a bright picture of all the election promises (lies?) contained in a wide variety of party manifestos. The implications of the dirty words “coalition government” will be spelled out and finally he will do some crystal ball gazing on the possible election results.
