Mythic Elements in Wagners’ Music Dramas

This presentation, after a brief introduction on myths in general and on Wagner's special musical contribution to what we normally call 'opera', looks at the mythical material on which Wagner drew for his characters, plots and themes. After a glance at works like The Flying Dutchman, Lohengrin, Tannhauser, Tristan and Isolde and Parsifal, we will concentrate on the rich mythical content of his huge four-part drama The Ring of the Nibelung.

Die U3A komitee het besluit om onder die vaandel van U3A-uitstappies (excursions), 'n bus te bespreek vir lede om die Woordfees in Stellenbosch by te woon. 

Die betrokke datums is Woensdag 7, en Donderdag 8, Oktober. Die wat wil saamgaan moet asb. self Woordfeeskaartjies en besprekings doen, U3A verskaf slegs die vervoer Stellenbosch toe en terug.

Vertrektyd is 08:00  vanaf die Whale Coast Mall – die bussie sal naby Ingang 2 staan en vertrektyd terug vanaf die Woordfees parkeerarea sal 17.00 wees. Verwagte aankomstyd in Stellenbosch, afhangende van verkeer, is dus 09.30. 

Ons kan 'n 12-sitplekbus bespreek of twee busse indien daar byvoorbeeld 20 mense is wat wil gaan. 

Die koste hang af van die aantal mense en die grootte van die bus, maar behoort ongeveer R460, retoer, per persoon te wees.

Laat weet asb so gou moontlik vir Phil Wilmot of jy saam Woordfees toe wil gaan, ten laatste 11 September asb.

Onthou om jou naam, eposadres en telefoonnr in te sluit. Onthou ook om aan te dui watter datum jou pas, 7de of 8ste. Betalings in die U3A-rekening vooruit, asb.

U3A WEBSITE

A new combined website of the U3A Overberg and the Hermanus History Interest Group (HHIG – formerly the Hermanus History Society) has been developed and launched on the internet. It features items such as the explanation of the U3A mission, the newsletter, articles about the history and personalities of Hermanus, titles of books in the HHIG library, links to YouTube videos of U3A lectures, and the committee members.
