As part of our commemoration of the USA’s 250^th Anniversary, Bob and Letitia will look at the way in which American poets through the ages have commented on their country and its complex history. There are anthems that vibrate with passionate patriotism, while other poems express deep, cynical disillusionment. And many in-between. There is also a great deal about the splendour of the physical landscape and the way in which Americans are bound to the land, “from sea to shining sea”!  We will also be looking at the link between a couple of poets and politicians, as they extol the “Glory of the Nation” at the time of this very special anniversary.
